Packaging & Materials

the vessel

Our bottles are remade from 100% post-consumer recycled glass, breathing new life into old glass, with a 40% lower carbon footprint than virgin glass. You will likely notice small imperfections in our bottles which we embrace as the imperfect, impermanent, and incompleteness of nature – much like the Japanese concept of wabi sabi. After carrying mead, the bottles can live on to hold your flowers, olive oil, or be recycled. They can also be returned to our meadery to be reused as vessels for mead, further continuing the life of the glass.

THE CLOSURE

Our stoppers reduce our packaging carbon footprint through the use of a natural wood top and a leg made from renewable, plant-based polymers. Compared to similar closures, the use of plant-based polymers reduces related CO2 emissions by 10%. After you finish your mead, you can separate the closure parts by firmly pushing the wooden top down to the bottom of the leg. Once separated, the wooden top can easily be composted in your garden or compost bin to break down with other organic waste.

the label

All labels are printed using (what ink?) on paper made of 30% post-consumer waste and

applied from a liner made of 90% post-consumer waste. If you decide to recycle your bottle, feel free to leave the label on, as it will be removed during the recycling process.
